OUR BEGINNINGS
A Bold Start in a Growing City
San Diego High had its beginnings in 1882 with the Russ School. As San Diego grew, the school grew with it—educating generations who would become part of the city’s civic, business, cultural, and community life.
A CAMPUS TAKES SHAPE
The Hilltop Becomes Home
The Grey Castle opened in 1907 and became one of San Diego High’s defining landmarks. Over the decades, the hilltop campus expanded with new academic, athletic, and civic spaces.

TRADITION. SCHOLARSHIP. COMMUNITY.
More Than a School
Across classrooms, playing fields, stages, clubs, and friendships, San Diego High has always been about more than a diploma. It is a community shaped by achievement, service, connection, and Caver pride.
THEN & NOW
Honoring Our Past. Building Our Future.

THEN
Our earliest campus history reflects a city and a school growing up together.

NOW
A renewed campus serves today’s students while carrying more than a century of memory forward.
We are Cavers for life—connected by a legacy of excellence, service, and pride.

PRESERVING OUR STORY
Yearbooks, Archives & Memories
The Alumni Association helps preserve the story of generations of Cavers through photographs, publications, yearbooks, memorabilia, and personal memories. This first-pass page is designed to grow as more archival material is digitized and organized.
